We will take you through the history and evolution of fire. How far back our control of fire began, how our bodies changed and how it influenced our behaviour. This will be practical based too, so you will learn how fire was made through the ages and have a go yourself.
At the end of this course you will have in-depth skills and knowledge to be able to make fire using natural materials found in nature.
You will learn
- Knife and saw safety and techniques in carving and cutting skills.
- Fire craft. Lighting and maintaining your campfire. Fire lays.
- Hand Drill friction fire lighting
- Bow Drill friction fire lighting.
- Flint and steel.
- Other fire lighting methods including Pump Drill, Fire Plow, Fire Saw, Fire Thong, Rudiger Roll.
- Leave no trace.
The course is suitable for
Suitable for individuals, families, groups of friends or colleagues and youth group leaders wishing to learn or improve their Bushcraft skills. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
What to bring and wear
This course is self catering except for the Saturday evening meal which will be provided for. Bring your own food and snacks. Hot drinks are provided for. You will need to bring your own sleeping arrangements e.g. tent or hammock, sleeping bag etc. Bring waterproofs and outdoor clothing.
Gift Vouchers are posted out 1st class signed for. They are printed on high quality glossy card, ideal for a present and contain a unique voucher number. Buying a voucher does not reserve a place on the course. You will need to redeem the voucher using the voucher number and return a completed booking form to us. Once the booking form is returned and accepted by us, then your reservation for the course is secured. Booking is on a first come, first served basis. You may not get your preferred dates if you book late.
